5 things I’m not doing in 2023

If I have any advice to you, man, woman or other: it is to be your own parent. Love yourself firmly, unwaveringly, and without needing anything in return. Protect yourself. Care for yourself. Say ‘no’ to yourself when it’s difficult to. Demand the best for yourself even when your self esteem crushes you. Because the one person you have to be on good terms with is yourself.

And that is why I’m setting slightly different resolutions for myself this year. Instead of hoping to drop a dress size or take up tennis, I’m going to make some rules and ban a few things to keep myself in check. I think these are universal, but if you feel you need a few more, feel free to add them.

  1. I will not seek to find my worth in the attention of others.

I’m not going to chase anyone to validate my own need to feel attractive, wanted, cared for, or loved. I am going to change anything about myself that I do not want to change for my own reasons: not the hope of appealing to people who don’t…
