No matter whether you’re a wide-eyed supermodel or a mucus-covered hobgoblin, we’ve all had days where we feel bad about what we see in the mirror, dear ladies. In a world where our appearance impacts how we are treated and judged as women, it’s easy to get distressed about a bad photograph, an unseemly reflection, and a stray hair. I cannot stress how important it is to recognise how warped your sense of self can become when you obsess over imperfections, or how vital it is that you take a step back and control your own autonomy on your image.
Here’s the thing: there is always someone who dreams of looking like you.
Just wear that bloody dress
When I was about 23, I was the thinnest I’d ever been. I was easily 15lb lighter than I am now. A bit too thin, if I’m honest. But I still felt too fat and bulbous to wear the clothes I wear today. My arms weren’t toned enough to wear a beautiful sleeveless dress. My waist wasn’t small enough to wear a cropped blouse. I was deeply disappointed to have hips wider than my torso, no matter how much I starved myself: that ruled out dropped waists and all skirts.
