All the ways we have failed our men: as long, long requested
You asked for it, gentlemen, so here we go
Many, many, many men read my articles on misogyny and the abuse of women and come back to me with one question: what about men? What about the ways society fails men? What about the ways women badly treat men? So, my darlings, in good faith, this is my attempt to right that wrong. I am however lacking by the means of a genital protrusion, so please forgive me if I miss anything in the male-embodied social experience. I have done my best.
Light teasing aside, these are all serious issues I’m concerned about and have seen harm my male friends and family members here in the UK.
Not teaching our sons healthy emotional regulation
Girls are taught how to emote in a safe and controlled way: we are shown how to exit the situation, share how we are feeling by verbal communication, have a good cry to reduce our cortisol, confide and request support, and take time out from stressful and upsetting situations to develop a sensible, calm, strategy. We, as women, are allowed to build up a healthy, non-violent response to fear or anxiety.
