Are you a “nice guy”, or are you just not horrible?
How low does the bar go on this one
A gentleman said something in the comments to me recently that made me laugh. “Girls don’t choose nice guys,” he said, “you want men who beat, rape, and kill you.” Really, I thought. That’s how bad things have got? You’re nice if you don’t beat, rape and kill me? Lucky us, ladies.
So I thought I’d outline all the nice things men have done for me; which is a little bit more than not actively attacking and killing me.
- Picking me up from the airport after a terrible break up
A male friend was texting me as I sat sobbing at JFK a few years ago, worried about me. My long term American boyfriend had cheated on me and left me, and I was coming back to the UK. I was dreading arriving. So he drove an hour out to pick me up at 7am, with flowers, and listened to me as I cried and cried and cried in his car. I was so heartbroken I don’t remember anything else about that week. But his kindness was overwhelming. (And no, he didn’t try to bang me afterwards, or get mad when I didn’t fall into his arms.)
