Every slightly petty reason I’ve decided not to date someone anymore

I strongly believe it is better to be single than with the wrong person. In a world where we are taught that the worst, most shameful thing that could possibly happen to us is getting old and having a cat, I’m quickly realising that I’m much happier being with someone because I like them a lot, rather than because society tells me I should settle down. The bar is no longer ‘he doesn’t hit you’.

So I don’t settle. And part of not settling is actually listening to the tinkling alarm bells over the little things. I’m not saying any of these men were potentially abusive, or even wrong: just that they weren’t for me. Here are some of the little things, arguably petty, I’ve decided to call quits on.

1. He spoke way too slowly, and for too long

It might be an accent or dialect thing: I’m well aware that Queen’s English can be a little fast for Americans, and…
