Everything you need to know about abortion: whatever your gender

Misinformation is running wild

Before you all come at me in the comments, I have never had an abortion. I know a lot about this because I didn’t flunk sex education and bothered to educate myself. Through sheer luck, birth control has always worked for me. I could easily be in a different situation: and that is why I want to have access to safe reproductive care. Whatever you want to do with your body, you deserve to be informed.

1. The morning after pill cannot get rid of a baby

If you are already impregnated, I’m afraid this pill will do nothing for you. It doesn’t “flush out the foetus” as insane evangelists share online. The pill is an androgen (hormone) modifier that stops your body ovulating (producing an ovum). This means the sperm now inside you, that can survive for days, have a significantly reduced chance of fertilising you. It does not and has never “got rid of a baby”. Banning it is crazy and will only lead to actual abortions of actual fetuses.

2. A chemical abortion is far more common than a physical one (and not the morning after pill)
