I get it: it’s probably the middle of the night, you’re desperately unhappy, and you’re thumbing through advice on the internet. But I’ve got some good news for you: you will definitely feel better, and probably sooner than you think. As someone who has been through it herself; I promise you, there is an end to the physical and mental symptoms of heartbreak. Here’s what does (and doesn’t) work.

1. Accept that you’re deeply, deeply hurt.

You will be experiencing a deep sense of stress, loneliness, confusion and emptiness. I know it can feel like you’re the first person ever to be this hurt in love: but you aren’t. It doesn’t matter if it was a three year romance or a twenty year marriage, being left hurts. Not ‘feels sad’, hurts. That tightness in your chest? The sudden weeping? The numbness to everything?
