It’s time we came down hard against the ‘home education’ trend
No, you can’t educate your kids, random uneducated person
I strongly believe that the only children who should be home schooled are children with severe disabilities, severe behavioral issues, or those who live so remotely that there is no other option. It should be the last resort, and something heavily regulated with a compulsory curriculum, learning objectives, and monthly social worker visits to check. There is no reason at all to take a normal, healthy child out of school and emotionally stunt their development, shut doors for them, and potentially leave them open to domestic abuse and neglect. Here’s why.
1. Children have to learn to socialise in groups, leave the house, and work with people they don’t like: even if they hate it
In real life, as a grown up, you will have to work with Jenna. Jenna who is mean to you. Jenna who is going to make you angry, even at 38. You don’t get to go run home and sit under the kitchen table and play Roblox.
