Love is not finding the sexiest girl prepared to date you, lads

You think she’s gorgeous? Congratulations, it doesn’t matter

There’s some dialogue in a children’s princess movie that I still love. The handsome prince has met the beautiful princess, and he’s head over heels with how attractive she is. “What do you like about me?” she asks. “You’re beautiful!” he enthuses. “Yes, but what else?” she enquires. “What else is there?” the prince asks her. She’s devastated, everyone groans and audibly facepalms, and he doesn’t get the girl. “You should write a book,” his advisor tells him. “How to offend women in five words or less.”

Why are you making yourself miserable?

Sure: it’s for kids. But it still rings true. Way, way too many men confuse attraction for love. They are completely different things. Desiring to be with the most beautiful woman is nothing like the extraordinary, enchanting bonds of love. Until you’ve been in love, you’ll never understand it. Love is a thousand times more intoxicating, brilliant, and exhilarating that any sexual encounter you’ll ever have. To be loved is the greatest feeling on earth. I’d choose eternal, everlasting love over a million dollars.

With more and more men never experiencing the deep, long lasting bonds that lead to love, it is unsurprising that so many man pursue connections with the most attractive woman…
