Here’s the thing: most of the time, you don’t need a goodbye speech. It’s very rare for a relationship — or situationship — to have irretrievably broken down without both people becoming very aware of what the problem was. If you brought up why you were unhappy a billion times, he already knows why you’re leaving. And if you were just fighting constantly, you both know why you’re leaving. A big angry final speech you immediately feel guilty for isn’t going to help anyone. And working out what you want to say and agonising over the right words is yet another reason you’re using to put off the break up.
