The guy I’m dating hasn’t reply to me today, since last night. Before, this would have sent me into an absolute spiral. What did I do? What did I say? What happened? Was I not pretty enough? Too needy? Too fat? Was there someone else? Had he gone out with another girl and liked her more? I’ll admit my throat tightened a little, still, but I didn’t flip out, like I would have done a few years ago. Back then, I would have sent him two or three messages by now trying to prompt anything to reassure myself. I put down my phone, got on with my day, took my mother for coffee, and went about my business. Oh wow, I thought to myself. I’ve really healed.

So how do you calm yourself down? Ask yourself these questions.

1. Why do you think anything is wrong in the first place?

I, very, very, often, will just be busy. Because I’m a grown up with my own life. Maybe I’m out with my friends, at work, watching a movie, grabbing supper, sorting out the art cupboard, or just asleep. It’s not deep. I’m certain you’re the same.
