The TikTok Abstract: why is there so much bad science around dating?

Never just accept a conclusion as fact: ever

If you condense anything down to a few sentences, you will lose some of what it actually means. Hamlet is sad boy angry at mum. Heat is hotness. Cats are mammals. None of that is exactly wrong: but it isn’t enough to understand any of those things in any depth. It doesn’t mean you know enough about the topic to debate, discuss or really grasp it. I thought that was obvious. Apparently not.

Anyway. The same is completely true for scientific studies (yes, I did STEM, and yes, I specialised in HBE and EP). The more condensed the abstract, the shorter your notes, and the fewer studies you have read, the less you understand something. That’s as true for physics as it is for behaviour studies. And in a world where a huge number of lonely, low EQ men get their “science” from headlines, reels, and Reddit threads, that can prove…interesting.

So what is a bad study?
