We’re brought up in a world where for most of us, we don’t experience men as people until well into adulthood. Men are fantasy princes, superheroes, sexy vampires, aloof celebrities, and powerful billionaires. The popular boy who won’t talk to us in school and the hot teacher we can’t figure out. This creates a “space” where we romanticise the men in our lives: he’s not ignoring me, he’s too important and busy. He’s not cheating on me, he’s working hard and late because he wants to make enough money to look after me. He’s not a horrible person: he’s mysterious and troubled. Etc.
