I would indeed jog on if I wasn’t forced to sit next to her and her insufferable Year 9 friends on the whole way up to London Liverpool Street. By Tottenham Hale, I have heard all about why no one likes Angela, how Jessica is a slag and how wonderful she is at being ‘honest’ about people. Yuck.
As I get off, I hear her loudly proclaiming how ‘loserish’ my long skirt was. Apparently, I just like, totally look like a nun, omg. She’s just being honest. I manage not to smack her and walk to the tube. I’m 21. She’s 14. It was the right thing to do.
This Piers-Morganesque smug bitchiness has infected everyone from middle aged columnists to prepubescent girls. The finger snapping, self congratulatory bullying is so common that I find it exhibited daily through gossip, commentary and journalism. Do you really need to ‘say it how it is’ about that poor obese woman at the gym? Do you really need to ‘just be honest’ about how ugly your ex-husband’s new wife is? It’s childish and it gets on my nerves.
You aren’t ‘telling it like it is’ you are just being a dick. That’s exactly what you are doing. You are being nasty about someone who can’t defend themselves at the risk of inflaming your edgelordness and being labelled ‘like, such an over-sensitive little bitch’. And if anyone does stand up to you, God forbid, you leap on it grinning, insisting that you are ‘just being honest’ and drawling about how everyone likes leaping on the band wagon.
Just a thought, if everyone says you are a prick, maybe you should listen.
